Das BMW M6 Sagt Hallo.

This is the new M6. And in this case, we’re going to make the introduction quick and get to the point because this über coupe means the business. Aside from sharing the same 4.4 liter twin turbocharged V8 as its four door brother the M5, here is the rundown.

Both the Coupe and Cabriolet use the same M TwinPower Turbo Technology 4.4L V8 spitting out a snarling 560 bhp and 500 lb-ft of torque. All 500 lb-ft of which are available for stump pulling between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm (damn.) As you’d expect, this is almost identical to the M5, with the only differences being the M5 makes a bit (i.e. 2 hp) more power due to a 7,200 rpm redline and Valvetronic system.

The M6 also shares its transmission with the M5, using the same seven speed dual clutch (M-DCT). How good is this gearbox? 0 – 60 in 4.2 seconds should be a good description. Note that the cabriolet takes about one tenth of a second longer due to the added weight. But the rush of acceleration isn’t the only way to prove how good this transmission is, because like the M5, it helps the car get its 10 percent power increase to the ground while returning 30 percent more fuel efficiency.

Working with that gearbox is an electronically controlled multi plate limited slip differential called the BMW Active M Differential. The system is tied to the dynamic stability control (DSC) and something new; the Dynamic Damper Controls. The DDC system electro hydraulically adjusts the suspension damping force while driving according to the driving conditions and driver settings.

Meanwhile, controlling all of this madness are six piston brake calipers in the front which will grab 16.1 inch carbon ceramic rotors, while the rear 15.6 inch rotors are gripped by a massive single piston caliper. For those of you already planning tire sizes, the M wheels are 19 inch M specific wheels 265/40 R19 ultra-high performance summer tires in the front and 295/35 R19 sized out back.

You should be able to buy the Cabriolet around June of this year, and the Coupe will arrive shortly afterward as a 2013 model. BMW says more information will be released as the big day gets closer.
