The first generation of Audi A5 and S5 is going out with elegance. Replacing it will be the 2013 A5 and S5, with its new head lamps and hexagonal grilles and the rest of Audi group’s updated styling direction. Under all of that bright work there is one massive change as well; the 4.2 litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 354 bhp is going the way of the Dodo bird.
Ok so it won’t be poached to extinction by Dutch hunters but you get the point. Anyway, it’s set to be replaced with an engine that is finding its way into more and more “S” models; the 3.0 TFSI Supercharged V6, producing 333 bhp. Why? Because it is immensely more fuel-efficient, which also means it makes fewer emissions. Don’t worry about the power loss either, because if you really want it, there’s nothing a down pipe and a tune can’t fix for a forced induction mill.
The going out ceremony for the current S5 will be celebrated by a special edition model for the U.S. market, which will of course have the 4.2 litre V8, as well as special 19″ Titanium alloy wheels and an exclusive interior.
