The new WRX and STI as standalone models are coming in 2013, but Subaru is giving the outgoing model one last hurrah, at least in its home market of Japan. This should be the crown of the outgoing STI car, with engine, suspension, interior, and exterior upgrades. The 2.0 litre turbocharged boxer now pushes out 320 bhp (an increase of 20), and 318 lb ft of torque (increase of 18) by using an updated twin-scroll turbo, new exhaust, and revised ECU.
On the ground, Bilstein front shocks mated to STI coil springs, along with a flexible tower bar and draw stiffener keep things planted. The car sits on a set of 19 inch BBS lightweight wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport Rubber. A new front fascia as well as the removal of the fixed rear wing differentiate this version, while inside there are new trimmings and a set of new Recaro seats.
Only 200 units of the S206 will be built, and the car is already on sale. What makes it even more special is that an additional 100 units are being produced in NBR Challenge Package form with a carbon fibre roof and rear wing to celebrate Subaru’s class victory at the Nurburgring 24 hours endurance race. Don’t bother asking for one if you’re in Japan though, because all 100 have already sold out.
