Lotus Exige & Elise Recalled For, Er, British Car Problems

Lotus has issued a recall with the National Highway & Traffic Safety Administration for certain Elise and Exige models produced between 2005 and 2006 due to an oil leak that could lead to loss of control and fires or crashes. The oil coolers in Exige and Elise models produced between June 1st 2004 and November 30th, 2006 are at fault. 17 owners have filed complaints of oil coolers leaking directly onto the rear tires, which lead to handling problems, and in one owners case, fire.

If you own one of the aforementioned vehicles, you can contact Lotus at 1-800-245-6887, or the NHTSA at NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (reference recall campaign number 11V510000).
